The Secretary General of the Cuban Pro Human Rights Party
affiliated to the Andrei Sajarov Foundation René Montes de
Oca Martija, was sanction today to 8 month in prison, for the
supposed crime of contempt (desacato), in Cause 117 of 2004, in
the Municipal Court of Vueltas, in the province of Villa Clara,
informed sources of the Pro Human Rights  Party.

According to Esther Germán Valdés, wife of Montes de Oca, the
activist was detained on September 22nd, at noon time, after an
incident at the court of the Vueltas locality where the opponent
showed up in search of some documents.

During the trial, only Montes de Oca's immediate family was allowed
in the courtroom, the authorities surrounded the building of the
Ministry of Justice with members of the National Police, the
military, State Security agents and organized citizens in favor of
the Castro regime also known as the Fast Response Brigade.

In spite of the police operative surrounding the court, members of
the Pedro Luis Boitel National Resistance Civic Movement, Democracy
Movement, and members of the Board of Directors of the Cuban Pro
Human Party affiliated to the Andrei Sajarov Foundation also
surrounded the building all in support of the civic leader and his
family.

The crime is known simply as "desacato." A common Spanish-language
book of synonyms shows desacato related to (as translated to
English) irreverence, inattention, insubordination, disrespect,
inconsideration, etc., like the U.S. crime known as contempt of
court.
